St. Riah Milton
Riah Milton (1995-2020) was a Black transgender woman who was killed in Liberty Township, Ohio on June 9, 2020. She was the 14th known violent death of a transgender person at the time of her death that year.
Milton worked as a home health aide and studied at the University of Cincinatti. She was survived by her sister, who vocally advocated for justice for her sister, including Milton’s right to be called her chosen name, instead of her deadname, which police used initially when describing her case to the press.
Two men, Kaleb Tooson, 19, and Tyree Cross, 26, were arrested and convicted for her murder after they confessed to law enforcement about the incident where they, and a 14-year-old girl lured Milton to Liberty Township to steal her car and money. During the robbery, Riah was shot twice, and was found the next morning.
Her family and friends describe Riah as having loved traveling and being outside. Her mother described her as outgoing, helpful and someone who always put her family first.
